RGS's Charity Tours Day in Penza

On February 21 Penza regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society held a day of charity tours in the RGS Museum of Russian Expeditions for the older generation. The organizers dedicated the event to the Defender of the Fatherland Day.

Igor Pantyushov, Chairman of the Penza regional branch of the RGS, and Natalia Kolyganova, Deputy Chairman, conducted two charity tours of the Museum, which was visited by members of the "Meridian 45" and "Green Meridian" clubs and of the "Children of War" movement that day. The visitors were particularly interested in seeing the expositions dedicated to the Penza polar explorers-participants of the Great Patriotic War Yevgeny Suzyumov and Konstantin Badigin.

New exhibits added to the Museum were displayed. The most interesting ones are Yevgeny Suzyumov's typewriter, corals and polar scarf, many books and documents.

Note: Russian Expedition Museum was established by the Penza regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Penza Oblast on November 30, 2016.

Over three years the RGS Museum of Russian expeditions was visited by thousands of Penza citizens and visitors. The Museum is the only one of its kind in the Russian Federation and is an example of a civic initiative to preserve the heritage of Russian pioneers and researchers-members of the Russian Geographical Society.
