4th "Masquerade" Theatre Festival Opens in Penza
At the beginning Penza actors performed a theatrical prologue that was followed by the hymn of the festival.

Tatyana Kurdova, the Acting Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Penza Oblast, congratulated Penza residents on the significant event.

"One of our brand festivals starts today. In the year of the 130th anniversary of the birth of M. Bulgakov, six theatres of three Russian regions will show performances based not only on Mikhail Bulgakov's works, but also on works of the authors whom his work is more or less connected with," said Tatyana Kurdova.

After the official part, the first performance of the festival began with a play ased on Bulgakov's most famous creation - the novel The Master and Margarita (16+) performed by the Moscow Southwest Theatre. The legendary Valery Belyakovich for the first time staged this play almost 30 years ago, but it is still one of the brightest embodiments of Bulgakov's novel on the Russian stage.
