The 1st day: ‘Lermontov: People and Passions’

9 a.m. An out-of-town guided tour to the cultural and historic centre of the spring ‘Kuvaka’ (Kuvaka village, 87 km, travel time – 1.5 hours).

10:30 a.m. A guided tour to the life-giving water museum.

11:30 a.m. A journey to the Museum and National Park ‘Tarkhany’ (Lermontovo village, 45 km, travel time – 1 hour), the estate of the granny of M.Lermontov where the poet spent a half of his 26-year life and was buried.

12:30 p.m. A visit to the manor house where you’ll feel the vibes of the charm 19th century. You’ll visit a small church of Saint Mary of Egypt. You’ll have a chance to drop in at the restored mill, to enjoy walking across old park paths and the estate garden. Dinner ‘Tarkhany Regale’ in the village café. Spare time ‘On my own’: walks along the ponds through the estate park and gardens; an old carriage ride; photo shoot; herbal tea with a knot-shaped biscuit. The guided tour to the second complex located in the core of the Lermontovo village: a visit to the poet’s tomb and the church of Michael the Archangel.

4 p.m.-4:30 p.m. A journey to Penza.

6 p.m.-6:30 p.m. Arrival to Penza. Transfer to the hotel. Check-in. Spare time.


The 2nd day: ‘The mysterious Burtasiya land’

8 a.m. Breakfast. Checkout. Meeting with the guide.

9 a.m. Outing ‘Towards the country of the Narchatka tsarina’ to Narovchat (150 km, travel time – 2.5 hours), the most ancient town of the Penza lands cloaked in legends being the homeland of A.Kuprin.

11:30 a.m. Guided tour to the unique Russian house museum of the writer A.Kuprin, the author of ‘The Garnet Bracelet’ and ‘Olesya’.

12:30 p.m. Journey to the Skanov village.  ‘The mysterious Burtasiya land’.

12:45 p.m. Visit to the cave monastery.

1:45 p.m. Visit to the Holy Trinity-Skanov Convent – ‘a gem of Russia’.

2:45 p.m. Journey to Narovchat.

3 p.m. Dinner in the restaurant ‘Russian Style’.

4 p.m. Journey to Penza.

6:30 p.m. Arrival to Penza. Transfer to the railway station.

6:30 p.m. Independent visit to the shop ‘Penza Souvenirs’. Spare time. Departure.
